Participating organizations

On the following pages, you can find out more about the organizations that are involved in the Guiana Shield Initiative. A very short description is given of each organization. Clicking on the name of the organization will open its website.

The image below shows an overview of the structure of GSI. There are four donor organizations, of which the European Union is the largest. They work together directly with the executing agency, UNDP, which is represented by its Country Office in Guyana, and with IUCN NL, the main technical partner. The UNDP Guyana Office coordinates the project as a whole and works directly with the pilot projects, the Steering Committee and the Partner Organizations. The Steering Committee and the Partner Organizations will oversee the project and give advice and support to the Project Management. IUCN NL is responsible for technical advice and assistance. It has subcontracted the Institute for Environmental Security to assist with the monitoring system and with the climate aspects, for which purposes the companies SarVision respectively EcoSecurities have been hired.
